Single Cup Coffee
Coffee brewed by the cup is as old as the French Press. But it was a messy affair requiring a large amount of preparation and cleanup relative to the technology of today, the pressure brewer. The pod brewer is like an inverted French Press with its own water heater, enhanced controls, and pump. Before going further, visit Coffee 101 to learn what makes coffee flavorful.
Pod coffee should not be regular bowl coffee placed in a pod. Each pod variety made by the best providers is developed especially with pod brewing technology. Pod brewing technology forces 200° water under 40-70# of pressure through the coffee in the pod for no more than 60 seconds.
This releases all of the aromatic flavor oils from the coffee grounds without releasing the bitter acids. Without the rapid unidirectional flow of coffee into the cup, much of the aromatic flavor oil would be lost into the air and the acids would be released from the grounds.
In addition, when a large bowl or server of coffee is brewed, the continued presence of heat and other factors quickly ages and makes bitter the once fresh coffee. Every cup is fresh with the single cup method.
